Once you break into a system, then what? If
you don't know how to use it, you will be stuck.
There
are a large number of InfoSec tools that are built to run on Linux. It
makes sense to understand the platform that these tools run from.
Although cyber security may be
managed from macOS, Windows, or Linux, most of the common tools are
available only on Linux. With Kali Linux being at the lead of the pack.
In my journey, I knew I had to learn Linux.
What I did first was install Kali Linux on VirtualBox and try and learn. This is bad. Really bad. I didn't know what I was doing. I didn't know basic usage. This is when I read an amazing statement-

You can't learn how to drive in a F1 racecar.
This is when I realized that I was wrong. I had to learn Linux in the easiest distro, not the most powerful one.
I told myself I wouldn't use Kali until I was ready to use it.
This is because, learning was a process. If I skipped to the end, there would be no actual learning and I would be shaping myself as a script kiddie.
This is not I wanted.
So, I removed Kali from the Virtual Machine.
I chose to use Linux Mint.
This is why:

I chose to use Linux Mint.
This is why:
- It is one of the easiest to use Linux distro's.
- It is constantly updated for bugs and is well known distro, hence if i was facing any problems, I could find help on the internet with ease.
- There were suggestions from Reddit.
- Mint is very similar looking to Windows, and my transition to it would be easy. (This is why I chose Mint over Ubuntu.)
- It is lighter than Ubuntu.
Therefore, I installed Mint and started using it. Well, the changes I saw while learning through Mint were so good!
I tried to learn slowly and gradually, but I realized that I wont use it as much as I used Windows.
I realized that the only way I'd actually start using Linux, was to use to for my day to day tasks. I had to use it for even my smallest tasks.
So I have this PC, it's a little outdated(OLD). I completely removed Windows and installed Mint.
Well, now I have Mint on my PC which I do use almost daily. This will enable me to learn Linux.
I'm using a video course and a few books.
Thanks for reading!
